It’s no secret I love dressing for the day, it’s a passion, but these days without face to face meetings and being seen above the waist only, the motivation to dress right for the day – and even knowing what that means these days, has become really difficult!

The truth is, that motivation and effort almost come hand in hand! Putting in the effort each morning and maintaining some of our “work-mode” routines, will actually help to motivate you, to show up mentally for the day ahead. Conversely being motivated to pick an outfit that makes you feel empowered, will boost your endorphins and help you perform better as you feel more positive.

So how does one “dress-up” to stay home all day? When it comes to WFH Chic it really is simple to look good, feel good and survive your one hundredth zoom for the week. I’ve put together my WFH Edit which not only allows you to look the part and be work ready but also remain comfortable. We’ve taken key uniform staples and styled them for home comfort.

Look 1 – Denim and Kicks

A denim dress presents well in zoom, with a crisp collar, creating an effortless dressy casual look. Yet, the soft and comfy fabric and self-fabric belt make it feel like lounge wear. Your secret white kicks are perfect for feeling relaxed and ready to pop out… to the letterbox.

Look 2 – Trousers and Tee

Team your tee with a stylish yet also deceptively comfortable pant. These bandless slim leg pants are so versatile, not only do they give you that professional complete look, they are so comfortable for home life you won’t want to take them off! You can easily dress this look up with a statement necklace or scarf when you need to be “camera-ready.”

Look 3 – Boyfriend Shirt and Tights

Many of us, including myself appreciate the flexibility and comfort of your tights but don’t want to escape down the rabbit hole of active wear for days. Dress up comfort, with a boyfriend shirt and you’ll mentally snap over into work mode. Plus, with cooler days ahead you’re ready to simply layer knitwear on top. A fitted knit can create a lovely silhouette to your look or be popped over the shoulders.

Look 4 – Combo for the Win

Take the tights from Look 3, the Tee from Look 2 and add a blazer… and you’ve got the combo for the win! Some of your days will demand you be ready to jump on a zoom that needs you to step right back into boss mode – be it interviewing a new hire, negotiating with a supplier or uplifting your team – the structure and tailoring of a blazer never fails to deliver.

Look 5 – One for the boys

It’s not just us women having a massive wardrobe adjustment, many men are working from home and have said goodbye to shirts and slacks, uniforms or suits, and are also struggling to find the balance between weekend and workwear. Look no further than Chino Pants and a Chambray, a classic business up top, comfort down below. Ready for your meeting but also for whatever the family throws at you for the day.

Creating some go-to looks that you feel great starting your day with, will help get your head right and motivate you for all your WFH day holds. It’s really critical for mental health right now to keep up with routines and also to connect with others. Face time a friend for a virtual lunch catch up, have Friday night zoom drinks with your team and make sure you’re not forgetting to have regular breaks away from your screen and where possible in fresh air.

With so much changing around us, a routine that balances work responsibilities and self-care, will ultimately give you the fuel to go the distance as we move towards our new normal – whatever that may be.
