For the Men - 8 Ways to Customise your Look

With a growing number of accessories and the menswear categories growing it has become easy for men to achieve a unique look without it costing you an arm and a leg. Most men fall into the habit of dressing for comfort or too quickly without much effort or a second thought.

However, it is easy to tweak your efforts and customise your look to suit your style – it can actually be quite an easy and fun task, here’s how:

1. Shirts
Having a few bespoke premium shirts made in timeless fabrics is a good way to refresh your wardrobe. You will be able to pick your fit, customise features such as pockets, cuff etc. and choose the fabric. The end product? A shirt that fits you comfortably and perfectly. However, this is not an option for all - the key to making your look unique is to start with a basic shirt. For a more casual look you can you can wear a t-shirt underneath or roll up the sleeves. Another idea is to wear a tonal or contrast long sleeve t-shirt underneath and roll up the sleeves so you can see the trim in the cuff. In the cooler months, put on a jumper or v neck knit for a preppy look.

2. Tie & Pocket Square

Ties can be an inexpensive way to sprucing up a shirt and creating new looks. Every guy has that one favourite tie he’s held on for too long and has worn to death. Build a collection of unique ties and even custom ties that are the right fabric, style and length for you.

Alternatively, be a bit different and start up a pocket square collection. This is probably the easiest way to ‘amp’ up your style. All you need is a variety of patterned square shaped fabrics and fold away to your unique style.

3. The Scarf
The great thing about a scarf is that it can be worn in all seasons. A nice light cotton scarf can be a comfortable accessory to add to your look. Invest in a couple of woollen scarves for winter to change up your look.

In the summer give your scarf to your girlfriend and she can convert your scarf to a head scarf while she’s at the beach or picnic.

4. Jewellery

Jewellery is a great way to customise your look. For the guys a long necklace with distinctive pendants that can be changed depending on your mood and a nice cuff can be added for a night look.

5. Watches

The idea with watches is to find the ‘right’ one. Shop around and decide on if you want a day, night or something that will transition between the two. When you are choosing a watch keep in mind your wardrobe colour palette and style.

If you’re a casual sporty guy bright coloured, fun watch might be the right one for you. If you wear a suit to work and dress quite urban then a classic look would be ideal so you get more wear out of it. Big faces are quite the trend – if you like to mix it up get a few inexpensive options or spend big on one you will wear forever.

6. Belts

Belts can add colour to an outfit. For all suits a nice leather belt with a classic buckle is best. Tan, navy and brown are also good colour belt options. Spice up your belts that have a unique buckle or an obvious stitching, don’t worry the grandpa belt is slowly making a comeback.

7. Shoes

Loafers, boat shoes, sneakers, dress shoes – the male shoe category is defiantly expanding. Whether you are a sporty sneaker guy or you like the boat shoe look- try add colour with your shoes. The sneaker world is insane with colours and styles. Stick to tan and navy for your boat shoes and loafers and always have a polished, sharp black dress shoe. Coloured shoe laces are also another great way to customise your look, and for your more casual looks, get a range of removable loafer tassels that can be added to your loafers.

8. Socks

The new trend on your toes, gone are the days of wearing black, white and sometimes grey socks. Printed socks have made a huge come back and they come in a wide array of colours, prints and patterns. They are worn to be seen and the more mismatched they are to your outfit the better.
